Ok, our last step is to read and acknowledge Odyssey's Code of Conduct.

Please keep in mind that each student is responsible for knowing and understanding this code and will be held responsible in their enforcement. Not reading the following is not considered an excuse in the event the Code of Conduct is broken.
General Rules & Behavior

Odyssey has set relatively few rules throughout the program. However, the few rules in place will be strictly enforced and have severe consequences if broken. It is important that both parents and students realize that this is a rare and exceptional opportunity being offered and it does not end at the completion of the summer program. Therefore students should not take this opportunity lightly. If a student is dismissed from the program they may be prevented from applying to subsequent years in Odyssey as well.

BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS-Safety and Zero Tolerance Policy *

I. Students shall comply with all Odyssey & Westminster safety rules and common safety practices. These include but are not limited to:
- Students are allowed in the pool, gymnasium, tennis courts, playgrounds or playing fields only during scheduled activity time and under supervision
- Intentional destruction of property or vandalism of any kind is prohibited.
- Students are asked to behave in an appropriate manner with appropriate language at all times
- No Fighting-ZERO TOLERANCE. Student(s) involved will be immediately removed from the program and will not be invited to return. No exceptions.
-Stealing-ZERO TOLERANCE. Any student caught stealing will be subject to immediate disciplinary action and/or immediate dismal from the program, without opportunity to re-enroll. Students in Odyssey's program are fully provided for; and therefore respect and appreciation for said opportunity is expected from all Odyssey participants.

II. Honesty
-Dishonesty of any kind, including lying, cheating, stealing is a direct violation of our rules. Students are expected to tell the entire truth when asked about their involvement in any kind of offense, taking full responsibility for their own actions.
BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS-Relationship to Self and Community *

III. Respect for Self, Others and Community
-Actions dangerous to the health, safety, or well-being of other persons, including the expression of racial, ethnic, religious, or gender related intolerance, or other forms of willful and malicious harassment; the infliction or threat of personal injury; hazing; the willful destruction of property constitutes a violation of our rules and can lead to immediate dismissal from the program. Disrespect of any kind to peers, teachers, faculty members or the general public will not be tolerated. Odyssey maintains a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for any form of bullying. Odyssey maintains that each student has the right to participate in activities free of intolerance, hate, bullying, or otherwise inappropriate behavior.
BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS-Sexual Harassment Policy *

IV. Policy on Sexual Harassment
-Sexual Harassment is not tolerated in Odyssey. It is Odyssey’s policy that no member of the camp community, staff, or camper – may sexually harass another. Sexual harassment is defined as inappropriate attention to an individual’s gender and “has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with [that individual’s] work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive atmosphere.”*

*From the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

V. Drugs and Alcohol
-Use, exchange, possession, or being under the influence of unauthorized drugs, including prescription drugs, marijuana, or alcohol is a direct violation of our rules and can lead to immediate dismissal from the program. Students in the company of someone using such substances, even if they themselves are not using them, are liable for disciplinary action. Drug and alcohol paraphernalia, including clothing and any décor, are not allowed.
-If a member of Odyssey staff has reasonable suspicion of drugs or alcohol on any Odyssey student, they may be asked to surrender their bag for search. If a search is denied, further disciplinary or legal action may be applied.

VI. Room/Cabin Visitation
-During overnight programs like Camp Odyssey and College Road Trips, unauthorized presence of a student in the room or cabin of the opposite sex is strictly forbidden. All parties involved are in direct violation of our rules and appropriate disciplinary actions will take place. This is a direct violation of our rules and will lead to immediate dismissal from the program.

Overnight boundaries
– Students are not allowed to leave the designated premises during overnight programs unless accompanied by an authorized staff member with permission from the Director.
- After lights out (10:00 PM) – students may not leave their room or cabin areas with the exception of an emergency.

Room Cleanliness
-Classrooms are expected to be kept generally clean for reasons of fire and health standards as well as to promote individual and group responsibility.

- No moving or dismantling of furniture is allowed at any time; except under explicit instruction from Odyssey staff.
- Students may not borrow or remove furniture from other areas at camp unless special permission is granted from the Camp Directors.
Jurisdiction *

VII. Odyssey Jurisdiction

Students must remember that Odyssey is a unique opportunity that should not be taken lightly. Odyssey students must always positively represent the organization and must not disrespect others while participating at Odyssey or wearing Odyssey's logo. This includes proper behavior toward bus drivers, MARTA or railway attendants, parents, peers, Odyssey interns, or other authority figures. Failure to do so is a violation of Odyssey rules and appropriate disciplinary action may ensue as deemed necessary.

Students (particularly young children or minors) should never be left alone at a bus stop. Neither Odyssey nor third party transportation providers can be held responsible for negligence due to children and minors left unattended or unsupervised at drop off or pick-up locations. Parents/Guardians agree to maintain this expectation throughout the entirety of the program and agree to release Odyssey free of any liability in the event this agreement is breached.

I. Public Behavior
It is our goal to create a caring community at Odyssey. Students will assuredly create new and close friendships of both sexes. While we encourage supportive friendly behavior there is a limit as to how friendly / close students should get. If students are seen interacting in a manner that makes the staff uncomfortable, they will be taken aside and notified of their actions. This notification will serve as a warning. If warned twice, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

II. Private Behavior
Odyssey has a strict policy in regards to private behavior. At no time is any intimate sexual behavior acceptable or tolerated. This type of behavior is grounds for immediate disciplinary actions and will lead to dismissal from the program.

I understand that daily transportation is a gift that is graciously provided by Odyssey through extensive funding. Inappropriate behavior enroute to Odyssey can put the entire program at risk, and is unacceptable at any time.

Behavior on the bus or MARTA is monitored and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. I understand that if my child, or any guardian that represents my child, uses inappropriate language toward another individual or the bus driver; is chronically late to the bus stop; threatens another child or guardian; or intentionally makes another Odyssey scholar or family feel uncomfortable may be asked to provide their own transportation. If issues persist, the family may no longer be able to participate in the program.

I understand that Odyssey scholars grades 1-7 ONLY are allowed on the bus at any time. I understand that, even if I have one child on the bus, and another child in my care is too old, the older child must either use the method of transportation Odyssey provides, or find alternative transportation options. I understand that this is a liability measure that Odyssey is required to follow and my willful violation of this agreement can put the program at risk.

It is a violation of Federal law for ANY adult or guardian not directly affiliated with Odyssey staff/volunteers or the bus company to board the bus for ANY reason. If you need to speak to your child for any reason, you must ask the bus driver to have your child exit the bus. Adults 17+ are not allowed to board the bus for any reason (including standing on the bus stairs or in the entry way).

Parents/Guardians should not approach another scholar unless they have expressed authorization from the child's parent/guardian. Verbally abusive language or behavior from an adult to a minor will not be tolerated and will result in the immediate removal from the program. Odyssey maintains that every scholar has the right to learn and participate in all aspects of the program without being confronted, bullied, abused, or otherwise made to feel uncomfortable.
Sexting and Explicit use of Social Media *

"Sexting" is a crime. Students caught engaging in this behavior can be charged criminally if there is a nude or partially nude photo of attendee on another’s cell phone or computer. A student can get in trouble for sending an explicit image of their peers to another individual or minor. Remember, once the photo is sent, it cannot be controlled and therefore can be shared with anyone or posted anywhere. It is an action that cannot be undone, with results that spread too rapidly to control; resulting in extraordinary consequences. Odyssey will not be held liable for such an occurrence and is unable to assist in repairing damages—physical, emotional, or otherwise.

Photographing, recording, or videotaping of students or other persons in any state of undress may constitute a violation of federal law. Any violation will result in serious disciplinary consequences, up to and including expulsion from the program, without opportunity to re-enroll. All participants and affiliates of Odyssey must agree to and understand that Odyssey does not and cannot assume responsibility for content posted on social media or other media accounts. Odyssey is not liable for media content, posts, or other online actions that an attendee posts.

I/we understand that Odyssey and its employees, chaperons, interns, volunteers, and other staff members--including the staff of The Westminster Schools assumes no responsibility or liability for the theft, loss, damage, or internal content to a cellular telephone or other PED, nor will they assume responsibility for the unauthorized use of said device(s). PED are the sole and lone responsibility of the owner--including content stored on the device.

I. Tobacco and Tobacco Products
Use of Tobacco is strictly forbidden. Failure to comply with this rule will result in appropriate disciplinary action and notification of the appropriate law enforcement agency.

II. Weapons, Fireworks and Fire
At no time should a student possess any type of weapon while at Odyssey. A weapon is defined as any object that could be construed as harmful to oneself or others. Any weapon found will be immediately confiscated and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken including the possible dismissal from the program. No fireworks of any kind are allowed at Odyssey. Students using fireworks or any form of fire are endangering the safety of others. No flammable materials, including lighters and matches may be lit in any classroom area unless in the course of a camp activity and under direct supervision.

III. Gymnasium, Pool, Playing Fields, Playgrounds.
Recreation & Athletic areas may be used only at designated hours and when there is a supervisor present. Furthermore all students must pass the basic swim test prior to using the swimming pool at Camp Odyssey overnights.

-Appropriate Odyssey attire is a T-shirt, jeans/pants. Dresses may be worn, at an appropriate length. Alterations to T-shirts are unacceptable. Mid sections and cleavage must be reasonably covered, shoulders should be covered, and modest shorts (no exposure of top or bottom of one’s rear end). No visible undergarments. Acceptable swimwear is a one piece swimsuit for females and trunks/shorts for males. Swim shirts for both genders are recommended.
-Appropriate head gear of Odyssey is an appropriate hat. No bandannas please. Hairstyles should be neat and well groomed. Odyssey t-shirts are to be worn on field trips for easy identification of our group.

Minor infractions of Odyssey policies may be dealt with by teachers and staff. Major infractions will be directed to directors and Executive Director, Jeff Cohen. The issue at hand will be discussed by both directors and teacher(s) of the student(s) in question. Students will have the opportunity to explain their actions and discuss the potential consequences with the staff mentioned above. Ultimate disciplinary action and potential dismissal from the program will come at the school Director’s and Executive Director’s discretion.
